FREE DISTRICT 9 , YOU DUMB SON OF A B**CH!...lol

District 9 Movie Review

Just made it back from a matinee showing of director/producer Peter Jackson , writer/director Neill Blomkamp's film "District 9". And I just have to say how completely blown away by the film I was, it was amazing how Neill was able to take the concept of apartheid and applied it a ficitional setting of an Alien mothership crashing in Johannesburg, South Africa. Neill did such a wonderful job of parelling the concept of racism towards the aliens in the film and you can definitely see elements from the real era of apartheid that occured in South Africa.
There are so many wonderful elements in this film happiness, sadness, action, drama, prejudice, and redemption. I don't want to give away any of the plot because it's better for you to see the film and enjoy discovering the plot for yourself, trust me you won't be disaapointed. I will tell you this though, the main character named Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) goes from being one man and has a life changing experience that makes him a better man -in a sense.
There is great action in this film, it doesn't begin till midway through the film but as soon as it begins its non-stop. The main character fights with the choice of putting his own personal needs aside for his alien counterparts and I'll just say he doesn't dissappoint. The only slightly negative aspect of the film was the portrayal of Nigerians who smuggle alien weapons and other things in the film, to me they seemed a little one-dimensional. But this won't stop you from enjoying this interestingly powerful film which I've heard some friends call a "smart sci-fi film". Not only is a smart sci-fi film , its that and much more!
Overall grade B+
